Where to Vote

Vote Centers: Porter County voters now will be able to use any polling place in the county on election day. One of the advantages of vote centers is that all machines for casting votes will be programmed with all of the ballots for the county. A voter in the Valparaiso School District (Center Township) can vote at any of the early voting or Election Day polling locations located anywhere in Porter County.

Only the voters registered to vote in the Valparaiso Community School district will be voting on the referendum. Voters must live in the school district boundary which is also the boundary of Center Township.

Early Voting

Absentee In-Person (Early) Voting began on Tuesday, April 5, 2022.
Early Voting is open at all locations on the following days and times

  • Mondays, Wednesday, & Fridays – 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Tuesdays & Thursdays – 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, April 23 – 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m
  • Saturday, April 30 – 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m
  • Monday, May 2 — 8:30 a.m. to Noon

Early voting will not be open on Good Friday, April 15, 2022.

You can vote at any location. All locations have your ballot.

Declaring a political party is not required if voting for only the referendum. Ask the poll workers for a non-partisan ballot.

Absentee by Mail Voting

The Porter County Election Board is currently accepting Absentee By Mail applications and is also accepting voter requests to be mailed an Absentee By Mail application. Completed applications may be returned to the Election Board by hand delivery during business hours. The deadline to return the completed Absentee By Mail application is 11:59 p.m., Thursday, April 21st.

Election Day Voting

On Election Day, Tuesday, May 3, 2022, the Porter County Election Board plans to have 44 vote centers throughout Porter County. Voting takes place from from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m

The referendum tax levy will continue only if a majority of the voters from the school district that vote on the referendum ballot question vote "Yes" to the ballot question. If it passes, the referendum levy continues to be in effect at a reduced rate the following calendar year and continues for up to eight years.
